Dorling Kindersley (DK) Spanish Language Learner Review*

Dorling Kindersley (DK) Spanish Language Learner
Made for 7 - 12 year olds
What is included?

Book
I really like the book apart from the fact it is fully attached to the packaging and therefore is very bulky. The book has loads of pictures, top tips, games and is written in both English and Spanish. The book has a dictionary with over 2000 words. It is written in English to Spanish and Spanish to English with useful verbs and phrases and basic grammar. There is also a picture dictionary with 26 topics. Overall the book is very colourful which is perfect for Children, and me!

Flash Cards
I loved the flash cards. There are 5 types of cards with each set having 12 cards. They cover 5 topics which are: numbers, food, clothes, objects and animals. The cards are double sided, one side has the words in Spanish and English and the other side has a picture. The cards are different colours on the front to stop them getting mixed up if you have a bit of an OCD like me. You can use the cards in games and puzzles which are in the activity section of the book.

CD
I wasn't sold on the CD if I'm honest. As you can see the CD automatically opens up in iTunes, I for whatever reason, expected it to be like a movie with short clips so you have audio, visual and subtitles but what I got was audio that doesn't give you enough time to go through it. You listen to two friends having a conversation (in Hello & Goodbye) the male voice has a Spanish accent I have never heard before, I believe it would have been better with someone who had a better accent as it is a little difficult to understand when the whole purpose is to help you be able to get the accent. Although the whole clip is 3.27 most of it is filled with explaining what the disc is about and you have hardly any time to go over it. It doesn't break it down. It just expect you to hear it and then repeat. Not word for word. Which I believe would be easier for children to understand.

  1. I always wanted to learn a language when I was small. I hope that when I have kids there will be things like this available.
