What I Want To Do When I Grow Up

I may be 21 years of age but I feel like I have my whole life ahead of me but with university finishing in under a year I'm starting to feel the pressure of what I want to do with my life after university and my overall goal of life. Everyone I meet asks me 'what do you want to do after university' and it actually scares me now! For the readers who don't know, I currently study 'International Tourism Management'

When I grow up I want to be an....
Immigration Officer

customer officer

The next five years
In five years time I'll be 26, turning 27 soon. I'd hope to have got some years behind me in the tourism industry. To start with I'm more than happy to work for a tour operator at assistant management level or as a travel visa consultant for a luxury travel company so I can try and work my way up from there. I know the tourism industry can be hard to break in to as a university student. I feel you're often over-qualified for a basic travel adviser job but you don't feel ready to jump in as a manager when you've not got any years behind you. Hopefully within these 5 years I'd of finally got my head around Spanish and can finally speak two languages, I'd also like to have some basics of French and German.

Five years onwards

This is where I hope my career will take off, I'd of had many years behind me and been able to train for what I really want from life. I want to be an immigration officer at the airport or something along the lines of border control with customer service. I think being a immigration officer came to mind when I really enjoyed my training for my SIA badge before the London 2012 Olympics. I enjoyed learning the law, I enjoy learning about crimes and I also enjoy talking to customers, but what I love most out of life is travelling, airports and I'd love to know all there is to know about travel. I'd love to be able to take it abroad too and work at different airports.

What do you want to do when you grow up?
What is your dream job?

  6. WOW! I would love to be an immigration officer as well! I love watching UK Border Control and all of these programs but I think it is only a dream :( I graduated in Accounting and Finance a year ago and want to do something related to Forensic Accounting but it is hard :(
